Two new Musical Directors for Opera Worcester

We are delighted to announce that Opera Worcester have been successful in engaging two Musical Directors for the 2019/20 season: Wilhelm Theunissen and Piers Maxim.

Until this year Wilhelm Theunissen was Head of Voice at Elgar School of Music and has been a lecturer in singing, a singing teacher and Head of a Youth Opera Studio in his native South Africa.  He continues to teach and is a professional tenor. He sang Camille with Opera Worcester (then Great Witley Operatic Society) in the 2004 production of The Merry Widow.

Piers Maxim is conductor of the Elgar Chorale and Director of Music at Malvern Priory.  Prior to this he was chorus master with Scottish Opera and Le Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels and was Assistant Conductor to René Jacobs. He is an organist, singing teacher and composer. (pictured:

We are delighted to welcome them both.
