Talented local stars promise an evening full of eastern promise

Opera Worcester are delighted that local singing sensation Luke Swatman will be a guest singer for their next concert “East of the Sun, West of the Moon’ later this month.

Luke shot to international recognition when he appeared on the UK’s The Voice in 2018 and since then his life has been a whirlwind of singing engagements and high-profile appearances which has included ‘Good Morning Britain’, BBC Radio and Children In Need.

Opera Worcester’s conductor for this concert is Wilhelm Theunissen, former Head of Voice at Elgar School of Music, a professional tenor and teacher who currently coaches Luke.

Luke comments:

“It’s great to be able to work with Wilhelm and I am delighted to be able to guest close to home at a local concert with Opera Worcester.”

A spokesperson for Opera Worcester comments:

‘Wilhelm is bringing a great deal of expertise and originality to the programme we have planned for this concert, including his own arrangements. Thanks to Wilhelm the evening’s entertainment will not only feature Luke Swatman as our very special guest but also local jazz pianist Elliot Hinton. It’s promising to be a great evening of music.”

Also returning to Opera Worcester for this concert is young aspiring classical/opera singer Amy Heptinstall. Amy made her solo debut with the society in 2018 in “The Marriage of Figaro”.

East of the Sun and West of the Moon promises an evening of melodies from opera, operetta and musicals celebrating the stories of the mysterious East including numbers from the King and I, Madam Butterfly, Turandot, The Mikado, Miss Saigon and South Pacific among others.

The concert takes place on Saturday 16 November 2019 at 7.30pm at St Martins Church, London Road, Worcester.
